Apple’s latest iPhone includes 3D touch, a pressure-sensitive display that adds another dimension of functionality to your Smartphone. For mobile applications that’s an additional layer of mobile testing needed to ensure the highest quality of the app.

3D touch goes beyond the simple tap, pinch, and swipe interface. By pressing on the touchscreen with additional pressure, and for prolonged time you can now command your smartphone to perform new functions. While on the homepage, a soft press, or as Apple calls it, a “Peek” will display a menu of quick items like calling your favorite contacts. It is a lot like pressing the right button on the mouse for a quick option menu. When you are navigating other pages, a “Peek” over an email or a website lets you preview that email or site. A harder press, or a “Pop” opens the email or webpage you are previewing.

It may seem a bit complicated, but it is all designed to reduce touches on the screen and to make your Smartphone experience go smoother. From a mobile testing perspective, the new “Peek” and “Pop” event handling demands more testing. Every mobile application now has these new features thrust upon it, and it will be up to the brand who issues the app to make sure these new features add to the UX, rather than detract from it. The iPhone 6s has already been released, so testing your mobile applications is an urgent priority.

That is why Experitest is pleased to announce an immediate upgrade to its SeeTest Suite that includes support for Apple’s iOS9 Operating System, the 6S and 6S Plus iPhones, and its new 3D touch technology. You can get to work right away on making your mobile application fully compatible with Apple’s newest developments.
