The first quarter of 2019 is officially in the books and as we look back there is a lot to be proud of. We welcomed more than a dozen new employees, as well as many new customers. Yes, life at Experitest is good but it has never been better for our users. With our Q1 releases, there have been more than 15 new software features released as well as 45 additional improvements to our products and offerings. The point is that we have been busy improving our products so that you can use them to improve your web and mobile applications.
With all that has been going on, I thought it might be nice to take a step back and have a closer look at some of the most important/interesting features we have released this year so far.
But first, let’s take a zoomed out look at our Q1 releases.
Q1 Release Overview
Our Q1 version releases focused on new software features that increase the speed and effectiveness of testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
One such feature that illustrates this effort and one that we will discuss a bit further down is Network Tunneling. Developers that are debugging data for uncomplete tests now have a way to enable better early validation. This will reduce their automation and maintenance efforts.
We also completed our move to full 64-bit architecture.
With the expansion of our use case support, we now offer integrations into native authentication tools, which includes the expanded use of test results data. It also bears repeating that we remain committed to supporting the latest models of devices including the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.
We offer all of these features and improvements as a fully SaaS-enabled environment.
So let’s drill down and take a closer look at 5 of the most important features we released in Q1 of 2019.
Our Network Tunneling new software feature makes early application validation a cinch. Before you perform a build or use your staging environment you can create a network connection between local servers, staged applications and remote devices located in the Digital Assurance Lab. The network tunnel opens the possibility to test applications that until now were inaccessible to test on external environments.
The tunneling client is a standalone program and connects to the cloud server. The client also integrates without manual mobile testing and works with grid sessions as well.
Manual Browser Testing
Our Manual testing offering for mobile is well documented. It is after all one of the core aspects of SeeTest’s functionality. Now, however, you can enjoy manual testing when carrying out exploratory browser tests.
Issues can be easily reported and shared. With the ability to take screenshots and generate videos of these tests you will be able to share the exact scenario with your team members and quickly debug any issue.
This feature gives you the ability to perform many manual actions like:
- Taking Screenshot
- Recording Video
- Extend Session Timeout
- Zoom in and out
- Open developer tools
- Copy and paste to inner browser
- End Web Session
The new test report: 360º investigation
Our SeeTest reporter has always been a hallmark of functionality and stability and we have taken it to the next level. Now you can generate video test reports. These will help you to identify issues and their causes more easily than ever.
Included in this new software feature is the ability to:
- Consolidate data of different types. This includes test steps, video recording, test data, device logs, framework logs, and debug data.
- Synchronize data across all data types.
- Improve DevOps toolchain integration with the reports’ improved API.
Next Generation XCUITest & Espresso Support
We released some powerful enhancements to our native testing framework integrations. These will improve your ability to leverage XCUITest and Espresso for speedy and actionable feedback.
Our advanced execution management includes:
- Faster feedback or coverage mode
- The ability to ignore tests
Testers will also be able to integrate with and execute tests directly from their CI environment. While testing is running, the Live Grid view allows you to see your tests as they are being executed in real time. Once that is complete you will receive automatically generated reports that are fully integrated with our new video reports and analytics dashboard. These reports deliver clear analytics and actionable insights that will help you drive improvements.
Test Recording in Appium Studio Plug-ins (Eclipse)
These days not being able to code is becoming less of an impediment in the world of web and mobile application testing. With our new test recorder, your non-coding testers will be able to enjoy simple test creation. Tests can be created while manually performing test cases on real device reflections. The playback feature will instantly validate your tests. When completed you can export the code to the framework of your choice. This will give you the ability to create test automation project and execute them in parallel without changing your environment.
Here’s a bit of a sneak preview. We will be releasing a version of this feature for IntelliJ in Q2 of 2019.
We are always looking to improve and to bring our users better value from our products. It shows in the way we develop our features and constantly improve our existing offerings. The cool thing is that we are never done and even as we move into Q2 of 2019 there are several new software features coming down the line that are very exciting. When I say down the line I don’t mean years from now either. I mean in a couple of weeks we will have a new release with many cool new features for you to enjoy. If you want to drill a bit further down into our more detailed release notes you can. The point is to keep testing and stay aware of all the awesome features coming later in 2019.
